Grocery List and Menu

Ok folks, here's our grocery list and menu for the week. Keep in mind the things on my list are ingredients that I don't already have, plus "staples," or things like yogurt and power bars that we eat on a regular basis that aren't tied to any recipes. Here's my menu making philosophy: I like to try 2 or 3 new recipes each week to change it up. I watch Food Network to stay inspired. Then, I'll fix 2 or 3 recipes I already know or we'll eat leftovers, something frozen or just go out. I have to keep it simple to be realistic. If you're trying to cook more, 5 new recipes is not the way to go...you'll get burned out. I still dont' do that and I cook on a regular basis. The new items this week come straight for Robin Miller's "Quick Fix Meals" which is a GREAT show for busy or working moms. She does quick and easy recipes re-using her ingredients. Here's what's on the menu:

  • 2 ears corn
  • 2 medium zuchhini
  • 1 red onion

  • 2 baking potatos
  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 lb boneless skinless chicken strips
  • 1 can white beans
  • 1 bottle tahini or sesame paste
  • Spiral Pasta
  • Garlic powder
  • Tomato sauce
  • Shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • Flatbread
  • 1 loaf french bread
  • Hummus

* The talapia is not a special recipe. I have those on hand and will just make a romesco sauce to spread on top of the cooked fish. I'll serve it with bread and salad, probably. You can google romesco sauce to get a recipes...I've never made it, but it looks tasty and I've been wanting to try it.
