You may have noticed, I get on kicks. When I like something, I tend to try and get everyone else on the bandwagon. If you have ever been pregnant, you know that exhaustion is almost inevitable. Throw a toddler into the mix and it's probably even more life-sucking than going at it sans-kiddos. To make a long story short, I was sick and tired of being sick and tired! A few month's back, I heard an author and dietitian on the Drake and Zeke Show named Elizabeth Somer. She has written several books based on the relationship between the food and mood. So I thought I'd give it a try. I purchased the E-Book, Eat your Way to Happiness and read it in just a couple of days.
It's not rocket science.
The more nutrient rich food we put in our bodies, the more energized and better we feel, hence the happier we are. She wasn't telling me anything I anything I didn't know as far as diet goes (although the way your body reacts to the food you put in it, body and mood chemistry, etc is fascinating!); eat plenty of fruits and veggies, good fats and proteins, avoid processed, pre-packaged food, etc. I think it's just the way in which she sells it to you is what got me.
So I've been trying it for about a week now (which is isn't long I know) and I feel great! While some fatigue it inevitable during pregnancy, I can really see a positive change in my energy levels. Best of all, she shows you how to incorporate this way of eating in our face-paced lifestyles. Yes, I love to cook, but none of the things I've been making for meals take longer than 20 minutes or so. I think the good foods, combined with eating 4 of five smaller meals throughout the day have given my energy a noticeable boost and curbed by hunger levels. I don't know if any of your families are like mine in that what I eat, the family eats, so I feel even better about feeding my family delicious, nutritious food! Here are some examples of what I've whipped up this week for dinner:
Grilled Pork Tenderloin with Rosemary Orange Sauce and Peas (I really improvised on this one; I didn't prep at all so I did a quicker and easier version)
Dill Seasoned Salmon with Pasta and Squash
Wine Marinated Chicken with Greens
I don't have a link for the last two recipes, but you can find them in her cookbook. To buy it, click HERE.

For lunches, I set aside some time Sunday afternoon to make some dried beans, whole wheat pasta salad for stock supply. If we don't have enough leftovers from the previous night, we have been munching on those (as well as fruits, veggies and snacks) for lunch.
It's really not that much work. It's all about whether you really want to do it or not. It's strange that it took sheer fatigue to kick my butt and inspire me to kick my nutrition up a notch! But hey, different things motivate different people.
Enjoy, and let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks for posting this Heather! It sounds like a great book! I'm the same way in that I know what I should be eating, but a good book can really give me the motivation to do it!
Thanks for the review. I have been thinking about this topic a lot lately. It seems that so much of our diet talk centers around losing weight, but a weight-loss focus lends itself to unsustainable and sometimes unhealthy practices. I love the idea of eating so that I feel great first.
Good for you, Heather. I'm dabbling in cutting down on sugar (as I sit here eating ice cream). It's so hard for me...and I'm not even pregnant!
