So, as I've previously stated, I really was hoping for a "natural" birth meaning no epidural or drugs of any kind. Well, I still have total respect for anyone who accomplishes this amazing feat, but I soon learned this was NOT the best thing for me! First of all, no one could have prepared me for how excrutiatingly painful labor truly is. Secondly, I think that to actually deliver with no drugs, you have to be passionate about it. I tried and wanted to be, but I always left the epidural as an option in the back on my mind, which, if you are like me, you will almost always take that option when the time comes.
Some people who don't succeed in having a natural labor are disappointed in themselves. It was the opposite for me. I was so glad I had it and wouldn't have changed a thing. Once thing I did do that made the experience better and faster was to stay at home as long as possible. As soon as you get to the hospital, you are not allowed to eat or drink anything...which to me is crazy as labor has been compared to running a marathon. So I really wanted to labor in the comfort of my own home which I'm glad I did. It gave me comfort and prevented me from being tied down to a hospital bed in labor for a long period of time.
But yes, the epidural made my labor bearable, and I was able to actually enjoy the experience and not resent Savannah afterwards for all that pain! I not ashamed of it! I would not discourage anyone from going natural if that's what they are passionate about. More power to them! However if you're on the fence, take it from me - this anethesia is a MIRACLE.

So happy you are happy with your experience!! That is one of the most important aspects of birth, I think (the most important being the health of you and your precious baby!!). I am glad you and Tim got to labor at home for a while before going to the hospital...and so thrilled that Savannah arrived healthy and whole. Congrats to all and praise to God!
