Mommy Advice of the Year

When I dole out advice, I try to only give if I'm asked, or, if not I try to preface everything by saying take it with a grain of salt. Especially when it comes to mommy/parenting stuff. However I will make no such disclaimer today.

One thing Tim and I said we would do when if I ended up going back to work after Savannah was born was to have someone clean the house. This is not a new piece of advice, as someone advised me to do the same. However because we can both be cheap about some things, we kept putting it off.

Cleaning the house whether you have kids or not is a chore that no one that I know looks forward to doing. It can be quite daunting when you are tired and stretched thin during the week wanting to spend that few precious hours during the week with your family. Then when the weekend comes, the tasks seems overwhelming, practically taking up an entire day. Some working moms I know try and do a little at a time during the week, but this is just depressing to me, having task by task looming over my head stressing me out even further. So, we finally bit the bullet, followed my Happiness Project advice and decided to ask for help and buy a little happiness.

We are now paying my wonderful aunt to clean our house. She cleans houses anyway, and we feel good about it as she's obviously someone we trust in our house when we are not there. She will give the house a thorough cleaning every other Wednesday. When I walked into the house Wednesday after work, the air literally felt cleaner. She got things clean that I didn't even know were dirty. So now, not only do I not have to deep clean the house, but it's being done better that I ever did it! I didn't realize how much of a toll keeping house while working full time was having on me until that burden was lifted. The cleanliness along was wonderful and then waking up on on the holiday, and now this weekend, we were both so thrilled to enjoy a clean house while not having any annoying chores hanging over our heads. We've just been kicking back, enjoying the holidays and spending time with our gorgeous daughter. Now that's priceless.

So expecting moms who are planning on going back to work, or, working moms out there feeling the stress of keeping it all together: GET A HOUSEKEEPER! So far, it's the best money I've spend post baby!

I agree it is super-helpful. I have a cleaning lady who comes every other week. She is awesome and it is great to know the shower will be clean twice a month. :)

I'm glad you found such a perfect fit for your family!
