Whole30 Day 1 and 2

Tim and I are constantly trying out diets and recipes that will improve our eating overall. For example, we started incorporating more vegan and vegetarian meals in to our diet, and as you know, I've been a pureeing freak. I'm a big proponent of a dietary cleanse or detox....I think it's a great way to get a jumpstart if you are wanting to improve your overall diet. My friend Heather has been blogging about her experience with the Whole30 which is something like that. Through her links on her blog, I read about it too. Honestly, I never thought I'd take the plunge and do it. There are a couple of things that are pretty restrictive. It doesn't sound THAT radical, after all, you can eat meat. You can eat approved fats. You can pretty much eat anything you want out of the things you CAN eat. The idea is that we eat like a modern day caveman; no pre-packaged foods, and no grains...AT ALL. So it's basically just tons of fruits and veggies and lots of lean meats and good fats. You can go HERE to learn more about it.

I have always considered myself to have relatively good eating habits, so I didn't think this would be all that big of a change for me. BUT when I stopped to analyze what I had eaten in a day, I realized I couldn't eat 75% of it in the Whole3o challenge! Can you believe that? It was mainly due to dairy, grain, and pre-packaged things. That's all the good stuff right? How was I going to make it?

Well, we are now on day 2 and so far so good. I was afraid of not being able to come up with enough calories that my body needed. I was also concerned about dealing with a lot of hunger. It can be done, but it takes research and plenty of prep time. Isn't it a shame that it takes so much effort to be healthy? It's thoughtless to be unhealthy.

I can't really make a judgement on the program quite yet, but Tim says he feels like he's been operating at 80% for so long and never known it; he says he's never felt better. I don't know that I will go that far YET, but I will say that I haven't slept as well as I did last night in a REALLY long time. And surprisingly, I didn't deal with any outrageous cravings or get really hungry. I feel pretty great. We shall see.
