I am done with breastfeeding....I'm so happy - Always feel like I need to add a disclaimer with some of these. I am not saying breastfeeding isn't wonderful and the best nutrition for your baby. It is! But there are so many things people never told me about breastfeeding. Like how much it hurts when your milk comes in. And how badly chapped you are when you start. Then after you get grooving with it, it basically takes over your life! And don't even get me started on how it can interfere with intimacy! Yea, I don't think I'll go there. I think my mom and grandma read this blog. I was able to successfully breastfeed after about a month back at work, and I honestly could have gone longer, but I think there are some things in motherhood that can pass the point of being beneficial for the family as a unit. To successfully keep up your supply at work, you really need to pump the same time everyday, and it was challenging to keep my schedule that consistent. Plus cleaning that damn pump EVERY SINGLE time got old and time consuming. I figured, she's three months old - she's fine! And she is and I'm FREE!!!!!!!!!!
I use STORE BRAND formula - There are some things you just have to let first time mom's figure out on their own. Like you DO NOT need the expensive bottles that have 5 million parts. And you do not have to buy formula that costs $30 a can! These are things first time mom's are brainwashed into thinking they need to buy. If you read the labels, you'll find that all formula is basically the same. They even make a store brand kind that compares to "gentle" versions of the more expensive stuff. I buy the Target or Costco Brand formula. You get
two 25.7 oz cans of Costco (Kirkland) brand formula for $17.99 and one 25 oz can of Enfamil will set you back about $27-30. Once they are on all formula, you will go through about one can a week. That's $44 a month store brand and $120 a month for name brand. I'm using a trick my dad used with me when I was little. I say, "Wow Savannah! Mommy's got a treat for you...we have KIRKLAND formula!"

Amen to the whole post! Girl! I'm so proud that you lasted that long with the breastfeeding deal. No, no one tells you how hard it is and it seems too simple to just put your baby up to you, let them drink the milk, and be done...but NOOOO! It's actually a lot of work. We did formula feeding for both of my girls. They couldn't latch on correctly and both baby and I were very very frustrated. It led to lots of crying every day (for both of us) so I said, forget it and gave in to the bottle. My girls are very healthy. As much as they say it's the best thing for the baby, I've seen breastfed babies that have been very sick since they were born with infection after infection and virus after virus. We've been lucky but I think Savannah will be just fine on formula. You'll realize how much easier life can be! :)
I totally know what you mean! I am a mom of twins, and I lasted 2 months BFing. I had a redux in 2000 so, I was lucky I was even able to do that! I used Parent's Choice formula. It was much less expensive, and when you get to feed twins.. you KNOW that adds up like crazy!
Not sure if you're interested, but Parent's Choice has a savings calculator on their site for anyone who's thinking about switching formulas to save money. http://www.parentschoiceformula.com/baby-formula-savings-calculator.aspx It's amazing how much you save with store brand formulas and without sacrificing baby's nutrition!
